Second Annual Gator Charity Challenge

Bring the whole family out to watch the Gator football players perform feats of strength!

The University of Florida football team is preparing to hold its second annual Gator Charity Challenge event this evening, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The fundraiser, which was initiated prior to the 2008 season, will feature the 2009 Gator squad challenging each other in a series of strength competitions. The event is weather permitting and will be free and open to the public. Gates 1-4 on the west concourse of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will be open for entrance to the event at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Cell phone company offers discount to employees, then charges them to get it

"Jane Smith" is a part time employee of a cell phone company, which gives her a 25 percent discount on her cell phone bills. She began going through the steps to receive the discount. After going through the proper steps, she received her next bill in the mail with her discount put in place. However she received a new charge of $36.00. The charge was a "discount activation fee."  This cell phone company really does not want to lose any money.

Question #1 of the quiz is "Florida has 4 of these."  The answer we had was "Counties named after US presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Madison & Polk."  Our source was a book called "Florida Fun Facts" by author Eliot Kleinberg.  We got the question from page 16.  Good work, Eliot!  Robin, who was researching the quiz and is a past winner, not only discovered the error, she actually figured out what our source was for the question!  As it happens, there are actually 7 counties named for US presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Polk, Taylor & Jackson.  Way to go, Robin, and thanks for the assist!

So, we are revising question #1 to say" Florida has 7 of these", and the answer is "Counties named for US presidents."  We apologize for the mistake and we’re really thankful Robin caught it for us!  Fortunately, the mistake has not affected the outcome of the quiz as there are still questions that have not been correctly answered.
