Sparkling reindeer-dung jewelry sells at Ill. zoo

reindeer_dropping_ornament

Sparkly reindeer-dung necklaces are going on sale at an Illinois zoo that hopes to attract the same holiday shoppers who swept up its dung Christmas ornaments last year.

The limited-edition Magical Reindeer Gem necklaces will debut Friday at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington.

The $15 pendant necklaces contain dried, sterilized reindeer droppings _ sprayed with glitter _ on a beaded chain. They’ll be available at the zoo’s gift shop, or by mail for $20.

The ornaments are back, and 450 have already sold this season. About 1,500 are still available for $7.50, or $10 by mail.

Miller Park Zoological Society spokeswoman Susie Ohley admits it’s a bit silly but estimates the zoo could make $16,500. The zoo lost $200,000 under city budget cuts this year.

Police spend two days looking for man’s body when he appears at the scene looking for his clothes

Maciej Nowak had disappeared after being dumped by his girlfriend and was last seen drinking heavily into the early hours in Urzedow, Poland.

And when his clothes were found the next morning by a lake, friends feared he had killed himself.

But just as police divers were about to call in a submarine, Nowak appeared and asked what all the fuss was about.

“He told us that he can’t remember why he had taken his clothes off because he had been drunk.

“But he woke up at a nearby house. Apparently they had found him naked and taken him in and let him sober up,” said a police spokesman.

Nowak’s girlfriend Kasia Lubelska, 23, said she wouldn’t be getting back with him.

“It’s stupid things like this that caused me to dump him. How can I allow someone like him to be the father of my children?” she said.

Alright I normally do not get giddy about things but I am so excited about this announcement!  ABC-TV’s reality show ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ is  coming to Gainesville !  Yes, Ty Pennington and the entire design team will give one deserving family a knock on their door on Monday, December 7th somewhere in Gainesville.  Now if you are not familiar with the show, Ty & crew surprise a family by offering to re-model their home at no cost to them.  They leave for a week and the crew must complete the renovation in that time.  Eventually this episode will be broadcast nationwide.

Ark Remodeling & Construction has been chosen to be the local builder for the project, and since all of the planning, materials and labor are donated, volunteers are needed (both skilled & unskilled) to help.  There will be a rally on Wednesday, December 2, 8am at Grace at Ft. Clarke Methodist Church at 9325 W. Newberry Road.  It is west of I-75 between NW 91st Street and NW 94th Street.  Pass along the word.

As I mentioned, the project will begin on Monday, December 7.  Here is the schedule. See if there is anyway you can help and make sure you keep listening to 98.5 KTK for daily updates!

Mmmmmm!  Pass the eel, please!

The only written eyewitness account of the first Thanksgiving dinner was a letter written by colonist Edward Winslow to his friend in England in late 1621. History scholars have scoured this correspondence to try to accurately forge an account of the true Thanksgiving meal. The vision of the feast this letter and history form is far from how it is traditionally replicated in modern America.
