TEXTING WHILE DRIVING KILLS THOUSANDS: Almost 6,000 motorist deaths in 2008 were caused by a driver using a cell phone in some capacity. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, auto deaths involving cell phones have increased 28 percent between 2005 and 2008. Since overall use of cell phones has been steady over that period, experts attribute this jump to more and more motorists texting while operating their vehicle. In light of these statistics, more laws restricting texting while driving may be necessary.  Asylum.com)

Are American Parents Raising a Generation of Dumb, Unmotivated Kids?

Are today’s kids so catered to by a high-tech world that they are dumber and less motivated than previous generations? Susan Maushart, a mother of three and the author of the upcoming book, The Winter of Our Disconnect about trying to wean her family from its dependence on technology, says that her teenage daughter doesn’t even know how to use a can opener, because she’s so used to pop-top cans. She told AP, “It’s all so laid out for them. Having so much comfort and ease is what has led to this situation — the Velcro sneakers, the Pull-Ups generation. You can pee in your pants and we’ll take care of it for you.” Mark Bauerlein, author of the best-selling book The Dumbest Generation, argues that cyberculture is creating young people who are confused by simple mechanical tasks, and who are less independent and have less initiative. He says that growing up with cell phones and the Internet means that kids don’t have to solve problems any more, but instead can look up what they need online or call their parents for instructions. But AP cites critics of this viewpoint as saying that young people are just not learning skills that are no longer needed, comparing it to the fact that we no longer have to know how to grow crops or milk a cow, even though a couple generations ago these were necessary skills to survive.

Gloria Estefan got herself in a bit of a predicament at the Miami Dolphins game on Sunday (September 26th). According to PerezHilton.com, she was watching the game from one of the luxury seats and had been scheduled to introduce Marc Anthony and Fergie’s National Anthem performance. But Estefan got locked in her suite right before she was set to go on.

Although staff called a locksmith and security, no one got there in time, so Estefan was spotted climbing out of her suite’s window and jumping into the suite next door. She was smart enough to take off her heels before hopping out of the suite.

Some say the best time of your life is your teenage years while others say it’s your golden years.  Well what happens when you get accountants and statiisticians together with the inquisitive mind of one KTK employee?  You find out that the best age to be is 46.  It’s considered the gateway to a golden age when you have everything you want, such as a loving spouse, a beautiful home, a great career and wonderful children. Why? The late 40s also marks the time when people have acquired the most stuff, such as household gadgets and valued personal possessions. And that’s because they have the most money. The average wealth for this age group is 40% higher than that of 20-year-olds and 35% higher than those in their 70s, who have retired and are living on savings. The bottom line, we spend nearly $26,000 every five years on things we keep in our home.

So is 46 accurate?  Leave a comment with your two cents!~Chris

For the past two weeks, we’ve given you chances to experience Disney magic and Monday Bob (our newest team member) and I broadcast from the Prop Shop inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Walt Disney World.  We had such a great time the day before at Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  Funny story happened when we tried to return from Epcot to out hotel at the Walt Disney World Resort. Of course, Epcot has it’s own Monorail.  So after we got to the transfer station, we see a Monorail arriving. So we made a run for it, after all, we didn’t want to stand in any more heat!  So we jump on the Monorail that will take us to out hotel…or we thought.  We drive my the first hotel without stopping and make it to the Magic Kingdom.  We get excited because out hotel is the next stop right?  We ll as we approach the Grand Floridian, we breeze right by.  WHAT?!?!  So we end up back at the transfer station thinking that the train just forgot to make the stop.  So we go again, through the first hotel and stop at the Magic Kingdom.  Next stop, our hotel right?  Wrong again!  The monorail does stop and we again end up at the transfer station.  This time we decide to ask what is going on.  Well come to find out, we got on the express monorail that only stops at the Magic Kingdom & the transfer station.  So we get on the other Monorail and were thankful to get back to out hotel.  But come to find out, we had a ball riding around on the Monorail!  Here are some pictures from Walt Disney World.~Chris
