Despite numerous tries, gigantic vault in Morristown hasn’t been opened

MORRISTOWN – Here is the problem: Chris Peters owns a vault that is titanic enough to take on a tank. It is locked tighter than the gold in Fort Knox. He’d like to open it and has tried a proven expert, a former professional safecracker with slammer credits.

The vault, shut tight for more than 75 years, has neither yielded one angstrom, nor has it given up a single secret.

Man on all potato diet sick of potatoes

The man who’s on a 60-day all-potato diet wishes he would have set a goal of one month instead of two.

Chris Voigt of Washington state told the Tri-City Herald that – as good and healthy as potatoes are – there’s only so many ways they can be prepared. And, about halfway through his tuber diet, he’s had them boiled, baked, steamed, grilled, fried, marinated and mashed.

Voigt, the executive director of the Washington Potato Commission, began the project saying he was sick of people labeling potatoes as junk food.

Five places where land is free

In the spirit of settling the wild, wild West, some communities are giving away free land lots. What’s the catch? You have to agree to build a house (or park a mobile home) and live in it. For the most part, the places doing this are rural communities without much in the way of work opportunities. But there are definitely some upsides and we can think of worse places to wait out the recession than near a mountain stream in Alaska. Besides, doesn’t the whole world work virtually now, or is that just my hemisphere?

Old Halloween candy can make you sick!

As parents dust off Halloween costumes and last year’s Trick or Treat bags some find candy, but U.S. experts warn some of it could cause illness.

Karen Blakeslee and Fadi Aramouni at Kansas State University say the shelf life of some candy, like hard candy, may be indefinite, but there have been cases of salmonella poisoning from the consumption of expired chocolate.

“The shelf life depends on the type of candy, packaging and storage conditions,” Blakeslee says in a statement.

Congratulations to Christina Sarabia, our Woman of the Week!

Christina’s friend and neighbor April nominated her.  Here is what April had to tell us about Christina:

    Dear Storm & Chris:

Christina is my neighbor and a woman who I have admired since I have known her. She is a mom to 5 children, one (an infant) who has special needs and she works full time at Exactech in Human Resources! She juggles family and career along with being an amazing wife and friend. She gives to others and set’s an example to her 5 children about what a role model should be. She is involved and keeps her children involved in church, scouts, team sports, and the community. Chris is someone who I look up to and think the world of. Living next door and seeing the hustle and bustle of her home and the going and coming of all of them is tiring and at the same time, inspiring. She is a strong, devoted woman, mom and career woman. Someone we should all look up to!

Do you know someone you think should be our Woman of the Week?  Tell us about her!

I had my second appointment Dr Owens at Core Family Health and Wellness Center today.  I wonder why I was so afraid of going to a chiropractor, because after the exercises and adjustment today, I feel great!!  I noticed that the worn out feelingI had before I went to my appointment is gone.  I feel like I just woke up from a long slumber snuggled under a warm blanket!!  All the fears I had about a Chiropractor are changing.  I feel so much better; faster than any pill could deliver.  In fact, it is nice NOT to take a pill to feel better.

I also learned today that I seem to put more pressure on my right foot.  Dr Owens pointed out the wear on the sole of my shoes.  Something that I would have never noticed and possibly attributing to my pains. Friday is my next appointment and I look forward to the continued improvement in how I feel.  It is a lot more than ridding back and neck pain…I FEEL GREAT!  An overall feeling of relaxation, comfort and well-being!!  More later!

    Chris
