Millions of parents admit fibbing to their kids to get them to eat more healthy foods, a study has revealed.

Researchers found eight out of ten mothers regularly wheel out old classics such as ‘carrots will help you see in the dark’ or ‘crusts will make your hair curl’.

Other popular food fibs include ‘eating vegetables will make you big and strong’ and ‘Spinach will give you muscles like Popeye’.

A chef from Texas is set to become a hero to beer and fried-food loving men everywhere… after creating a recipe for deep-fried beer.

Mark Zable says he came up with the idea while sitting in a bar (where else?) and being bored by the majority of items on the menu.

Zable then tried countless ways of frying beer including using liquid nitrogen to freeze it before covering it in batter and submerging it in hot oil.

NEW YORK – A couple who left their car parked in a long-term lot near Kennedy Airport during a trip to California were trying to figure out what their car has been doing without them. Mimi and Ulrich Gunthart said their car odometer reading jumped by 724 miles while they were out of town. Ulrich Gunthart said he was “flabbergasted” when he saw the number. Another surprise: when they returned to the car and started it up, a music CD came on at full volume.

77 percent of Americans stay connected for social reasons, survey shows

People used to go on holiday to unplug. Now they’re demanding to be plugged in.

That secluded, desert island-type getaway may soon be as dated as the post-vacation slideshow as more travelers use e-mails, Facebook and Twitter to nurture the ties that bind even while they get away from it all.

“For many travelers, figuring out how to stay connected is as integral to the travel process as packing sun lotion and swimwear,” said Amelie Hurst of travel website TripAdvisor.

“In times gone by this just wasn’t an option. Traveling went hand in hand with being disconnected,” she said.

Hurst said clients planning their trips routinely factor in the best means of staying in contact.

Over the weekend, a golfer’s routine swing in the rough at the Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine, Calif., struck a rock. Not so different from the way you play, right? Only this time, the impact caused a spark, and the spark set off a blaze that eventually covered 25 acres, according to the Steven Buck, General Manager of Shady Canyon Golf Course, and required the efforts of 150 Orange County firefighters, writes the Associated Press.

A growing number of companies are encouraging employees to snooze at work—and boost their productivity

From Thomas Edison and Winston Churchill to Bill Clinton and George Costanza, the nap has had many famous champions. And with good reason. Ever since sleep scientist David Dinges helped found the modern science of napping in the early ’80s at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, short periods of sleep have been shown to improve alertness, memory, motor skills, decision-making, and mood. All while cutting down on stress, carelessness, and even heart disease.

With Americans averaging fewer than seven hours of sleep per night—and around 20 percent suffering from sleepiness during the day, according to a recent Stanford University study—many companies have turned to the humble nap in an attempt to stave off billions in lost productivity each year. Following the rise of workplace perks like lactation rooms, gyms, and child-care facilities, Nike workers now have access to nap-friendly “quiet rooms” that can also be used for meditation. Google a forerunner in employee perks, has a number of futuristic napping pods scattered throughout its Mountain View (Calif.) campus.

In 2009, 20 percent of children ages 6-11 owned cell phones, up from 11.9 percent in 2005, according to an American Kids Study by Mediamark Research & Intelligence.

Chris’s almost-10-year-old daughter, Grace, is dying for a cell phone.  And a LOT of her friends and classmates have them!  Chris thinks Grace is way too young to have a cell phone, plus she’s concerned about the possible health hazards a cell phone may pose.
