GEORGE CLOONEY’S ‘BATMAN AND ROBIN’ VOTED ‘MOST DISASTROUS FILM EVER MADE’

In similar fashion to Sandra Bullock, George Clooney had his Oscar joy knocked down a peg by a ‘worst’ movie distinction. A day after Clooney was named a contender for best actor at the Academy Awards, Empire magazine deemed his 1997 flick, Batman and Robin “the most disastrous film ever made.”

Travolta fans, don’t look beyond number 1- you won’t like it.

The magazine said the flick did not just come top voter rankings but got almost three times as many votes as the next entry — John Travolta’s science-fiction Battlefield Earth.

Here is a list of the top 10 of Empire’s list of the 50 most disastrous movies ever made with the rest available on Empire’s website: empireonline.com

  • 1. “Batman and Robin” starring George Clooney, Alicia Silverstone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman
  • 2. “Battlefield Earth” (2000) starring John Travolta, Forest Whitaker
  • 3. “The Love Guru” (2008) with Mike Myers
  • 4. “Raise the Titanic” (1980) with Jason Robards, David Selby
  • 5. “Epic Movie” (2007)
  • 6. “Heaven’s Gate” (1980)
  • 7. “Sex Lives of the Potato Men” (2004)
  • 8. “The Happening” (2008) with Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel
  • 9. “Highlander 2: The Quickening” (1991)
  • 10. “The Room” (2003)

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced on Monday (January 11th) that Spider-Man 4, originally scheduled for a summer 2011 release, has been canceled and that star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi have parted ways with the franchise. The comic-book character, the subject of three previous blockbuster movies, will be “rebooted” in 2012 with a new cast, script and director.

A statement issued by Columbia Pictures said that Spider-Man, a.k.a. Peter Parker, is “going back to high school,” adding that the companies are “moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.”

If it succeeds, this is the movie that is expected to kick off the next big multi-part movie franchise: Robert Downey Jr. is starring in a new and very offbeat version of Sherlock Holmes, opening on Christmas Day. The movie, with Jude Law co-starring as Holmes’ loyal sidekick Doctor Watson, is directed by Guy Ritchie, best known in America as Madonna’s British ex-husband. Even if most movie-goers love it, you have to wonder how fans of Arthur Conan Doyle’s great detective will react to this latest movie version. The Hollywood Reporter asked Downey if detective fiction fans will recognize his Sherlock Holmes. Downey replied: “Well, we got invited to the annual Baker Street Irregulars ball in New York, so I guess we haven’t fallen too far from the tree.” (For those who don’t know, the Baker Street Irregulars are serious students of Holmes.)

EXPUNGED!

Posted in: Movies

You do know Mel more people saw this mug shot of you than your last three movies combined.

A judge in Los Angeles has wiped Mel Gibson’s record clean. The star of Mad Max and Lethal Weapon fame has successfully completed the terms of a three-year probation served after his arrest in Malibu on charges related to driving under the influence. The move to expunge the record of the arrest is routine in misdemeanor cases. Gibson’s arrest in July 2006 earned him plenty of notoriety and late-night jokes. Police originally withheld the details, but within hours people were talking about Gibson’s drunken tirade to cops, during which he blamed the Jews for all of the world’s problems and made an off-color comment to a female officer.
