Alachua County Animal Services hosts Adoptathon event Saturday

 

Animal Services’ “Adoptathon”

 

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Alachua County Animal Services is having a “Summer Lovin’ Adoptathon,” on Saturday July 17, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Animal Services Headquarters (3400 NE 53rd Ave., Gainesville). This event is hosted by the Student Chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (aka “Shelter Medicine Club”) of UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine. 

Puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats will be available for reduced prices. Cats are $33 (or 2 for $40) and dogs are $45 (or 2 for $60).  The first 10 adoptions are $5. All adoptions include spay/neuter, deworming, microchipping, free bag of Purina food and “goodie bag.”

Black Holes: Special Friday Night Showing

Currently in distribution to more than 25 fulldome theaters worldwide, narrated by Academy-Award nominated actor Liam Neeson, Black Holes: the Other Side of Infinity brings the current science of black holes to the dome screen. Supported by grants from NASA’s high-energy GLAST telescope project and the National Science Foundation, this cutting-edge production features high-resolution, animated visualizations of cosmic phenomena, working with data generated by computer simulations. Audiences will be dazzled with striking, immersive animations of the formation of the early universe, star birth and death, the collision of giant galaxies, and a simulated flight to a supermassive black hole lurking at the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy.

Kanapaha Botanical Gardens Moonlight Walk

Large sections of Kanapaha’s extensive walkway system will be lighted by 1500 luminaries, as well as paper lanterns and other light sources. Live entertainment will be provided at their stage pavilion.

When: May 22 (7pm-11pm), 2010
