Congratulations to Cheryl Vidair, our Woman of the Week!

Cheryl’s husband, Richard, nominated her.  Here’s what Richard told us about Cheryl:

Dear Storm & Chris:

I have long looked for a way to express my appreciation for the amazing woman my wife is, and I thank you for the opportunity to do so. No matter what the situation, she cares for the needs of others above herself. She always provides meals for those who need help, even though on a very tight budget. She opens the house to teens who need a place to stay, caring for them as if they were her own children. Cheryl recently lost her job as a private elderly caregiver, when the woman she was caring for passed away. Near the end, she was caring for her over 54 hours a week and still managed to keep a tidy home, take care of herself, race walk with her 18 year old daughter, walk the dog, and then cook meals at the end of a long day, as she is serenaded by our 15 year old drummer banging away loudly with only a thin door separating the drums from the kitchen. And this is while making sure that all of our kids get to places they have to be, sometimes driving 100 miles a day to do so. What amazes me most is that without her elderly lady to care for anymore, she spends so much of her time taking care of the needs of others, often going far out of her way to do so, while still looking for another job. And my favorite trait of Cheryl is that she is always encouraging, never complaining and always looking at the bright side of life during struggling times. She is a true gem!

Congratulations to Barbara McGhee, our Woman of the Week!

Barbara’s daughter Beth nominated her.  Here’s what Beth had to say about Barbara:

Dear Storm & Chris:

I am nominating Barbara McGhee as 98.5KTK Woman of the Week because she is the hardest working woman I know…plus she is my mom! In my eyes, she is the most incredible person I know. Since we were young children, my mother has always taught compassion to all her children. Whether it was preparing meals for a soup kitchen or shopping for a less fortunate family at Christmas, she made sure that her girls always think of those who are in a rough spot in their lives. She handles herself with grace and class in all situations. In my memory, she has always put others before herself. She has organized and prepared a monthly meal for Interfaith in Ocala for the past nine years. She is an integral part of the Pioneer Garden Club and recently played a large role in their “Christmas in Bloom” fundraiser. My mother is a nurse by profession and extends the same compassion and dedication to her patients. Please consider my mother for this award, she truly deserves the title of “Woman of the Week”. I hope that I am teaching the same lessons to my own children.  Listen as we surprise Barbara on the air! 1.28.10.4.Woman of the Week Barbara McGhee

Patti’s friend Yolanda nominated her.  Here’s what Yolanda had to say about Patti:

Dear Storm & Chris:

Patti is an incredible friend and a devoted soccer coach to many children. One of the most remarkable qualities is that Patti holds a clinic for Disabled children almost every Friday. When everyone has lost their energy at the end of the week, Patti extends herself with these disabled children. She has elicted the assistance from other children such as her 10 year daughter and my daughter as well as student from the surrounding high schools and university. She has made these children feel Unafraid and normal when playing soccer with other children. Her energy and admiration to the disabled population is enlightening. She DESERVES to be Woman of the Week and woman of the YEAR. She is truly a model of unselfishness and love of all children. Hands up to her!  Listen as we surprise Patti on the air! 1.21.10.3.Woman of the Week Patti Atchinson

Congratulations to Jenny Martinez, our Woman of the Week!

Jenny’s husband Gilberto nominated her.  Here’s what Gilberto had to say about Jenny:

Dear Storm & Chris:

My wife, Jenny, is such an amazing woman. She wears many hats throught the week. She is a great wife and mother to 3 daughters ages 7, 5 and 2. She is a school nurse at Horizon Middle and watches over all the kids as if they were her own, from the occasional scraped knees to the daily diabetes monitoring and the rare broken bone. She also goes above and beyond her R.N. duties by getting special programs to come out to the school and help the kids. Some include getting free eye glasses to needy kids who would otherwise go without corrected vision. Others include getting local services to come out and speak to the kids about sex ed saftey and abstinence. She is a girls scout troop leader for 6 kindergarteners. She chouffers our daughters to weekly ballet and acrobatic lessons. She is an active member in our church – involved in a marriage program which meets 3 times a year to discuss marriage issues with soon-to-be married couples. She has led a church mom’s group dedicated to bible study from a mothers point-of-view and hosted dinner nights for the group at our home. She is also involved in a larger church group which hosts bi-yearly retreat weekends for parrishoners. Jenny is so great, she works so hard to help so many out, she loves and cares for so many of the kids at her school, she dedicates so much to our daughters to give them the childhood she would have hoped for herself and she does all this without asking for anything – well maybe except for our daughters to clean up after themselves. I am humbled to be married to her and thank God everyday for her. I think no woman is more deserving than Jenny.  Listen as we surprise Jenny on the air! 1.14.10.3.Woman of the Week Jenny Martinez

Congratulations to Debora Hernandez, our Woman of the Week!

Debora’s husband Carl nominated her.  Here’s what Carl had to say about Debora:

Dear Storm & Chris:

25 years ago, Debora showed me the kindness and attention that captured my heart.  She supported me for 20 years as I served our country in the USAF. While I was deploying around the world, she raised our 3 wonderful children through easy as well as very difficult times such as surgeries, broken hearts, children desperately missing their daddy.  If you ask anyone in the VA, people will tell you that she helps everyone and makes patients and staff feel like they are the most important person in the hospital.  She is not only the most important person in my life, she is the most important person in the lives of everyone in our family and for many people in Gainesville.  I can go on and on but let me close by saying that whether or not the good people of KTK agree with me and my kids, Debora IS the most important person ever.  Please give her what we can’t.  Listen as we surprise Debora on the air! 12.17.09.4.Woman of the Week Debora Hernandez

Congratulations to Cathy McBride, our Woman of the Week!

Cathy’s daughter Allison nominated her.  Here’s what Allison had to say about Cathy:

Dear Storm & Chris:

Cathy McBride is my mom. She is kind, loving, supportive and my best friend. She’s my personal chef, maid, and chauffeur. She never complains. She is a single mother of two and I know it must be hard for her sometimes but she always has a smile on. I think she should be Woman of the Week, because she really deserves it. She does so much for me. I think she deserves a spa day. I think she deserves it more than anyone for having to put up with me so much and never complaining.  Listen as we surprise Cathy on the air! 12.10.09.4.Woman of the Week Cathy McBride

Congratulations to Tammy Burgard, our Woman of the Week!

Tammy’s husband Scott nominated her.  Here’s what Scott had to say about Tammy:

Dear Storm & Chris:

I would like to nominate my wife, Tammy Burgard for Woman of the Week.  She is a remarkable wife and mother who begins each day at 4:30 in the morning to work out to stay healthy for herself and her family. She also works full time as a middle school guidance counselor helping students. Tammy also is a mentor in the Take Stock in Children program and has purchased supplies and donated clothing to her students. Recently, she convinced a local ophthalmologist to donate free contact lenses to two of her students in foster care that did not have money to buy them. Tammy also volunteers as a fundraiser for Camp Heartland each year which is a camp for children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Tammy is an active member of the Talbot Elementary PTA as well. The remainder of her free time is usually spent helping our daughters with their school work and projects and attending their gymnastics events. She is a strong advocate for involving our children with charity work. For these reasons I would like you to strongly consider Tammy for your Woman of the Week award. I think she very much deserves some time for herself to relax after all she does for our family and community.  Listen as we surprise Tammy on the air!  12.03.09.5.Woman of the Week Tammy Burgard

Congratulations to Mary Bruno, our Woman of the Week!

Mary’s daughter, Nicole, nominated her.  Here’s what Nicole had to say about Mary:

Dear Storm & Chris:

My mom is one of the hardest working people I know. She has always been at our sporting events cheering as loud as she could, and she has been the definition of an amazing mother.  She’s loving, she listens to everything and always gives honest answers, and those are only a couple of reasons she should be your Woman of the Week.  Not only is she an amazing mother but she is an incredibly hard worker, currently working three jobs (she travels around the country teaching courses on wound care, she is a senior home health care nurse, and she works with lawyers on nursing home neglect cases).  If that isn’t deserving of an award, I don’t know what is.  About three months ago she was diagnosed with chronic lymphacitic leukemia, a cancer that does not have a cure.  However, her life can be prolonged with medication and constant watch over platelet counts.  My mom was so strong when she was diagnosed.  Many people would give up hope when they heard such terrible news, but my mom used it to make herself and our family stronger by staying close and working through everything that came our way.  Listen as we surprise Mary on the air! 11.19.09.4.Woman of the Week Mary Bruno

Congratulations to Brooke Longshore, our Woman of the Week!

Brooke’s friend, Kyle, nominated her.  Here’s what Kyle had to say about Brooke:

Dear Storm & Chris:

Brooke Longshore is a passionate, hard working 3rd grade teacher at Lake Forest Elementary. She is in her 3rd year of teaching but has been nominated twice as teacher of the year. At Lake Forest, Brooke not only has the task of teaching 3rd grade students, but she goes above and beyond the call of duty. She tutors needy children 4 days a week after school, runs the schools web page, assists all of the teachers with technology, holds monthly trainings on new technology, organizes and runs the teacher health program, writes grants for the school, brings in community volunteers, and much more. Most of this she does on her own time with no monetary compensation. On the weekends she visits her students who play sports. Her school is in a low socio-economic side of town so she arranges donations by the community for Christmas/Holiday for students that mostly will not receive anything under their tree.   She is a “mom” to many students and a friend to the children who have none. Her compassion and affection are outshined only by her initiative and drive.  Also, she does all of this on top of going to grad school. She is earning her Master’s in Educational leadership. To top everything off, she goes home and cooks f full course dinners for her fiancée, cleans the house, and does the laundry! If I did not know better I would think she has super powers.  She does more in a day than most do in a week.  She should not only be Woman of the Week, but of the year!  I could go on and on about how much good Brooke Longshore is bringing into the world. With a woman like her, it makes me know that the world will be ok.  Listen as we surprise Brooke on the air! 11.12.09.4.Woman of the Week Brooke Longshore
