The colors you favor say a lot about you, your background and even the society in which you were raised. Think you’re open-minded about color? Maybe you are, but when was the last time you saw a baby boy in a pink snowsuit or a newborn girl wearing mostly blue? Color can describe your mood (feeling blue?), your finances (in the red) or make you feel hungry (did you ever notice how many fast-food restaurants are red or orange?).

All brides wear white, right? Except for in China or Vietnam, where they usually wear red. In ancient Rome, a man’s class was signified by the border color on his toga, and only nobility wore purple. Lucille Ball was known for her fiery red hair, and Marilyn Monroe was just Norma Jeane Baker until she swapped her brunet locks for platinum blond.

Some women are bold with color, others more tentative, but most agree that there’s nothing more chic or slimming than basic black. However, unrelenting black can get boring and drain your complexion of any color — especially during those long winter months.

Though we frequently hear that gray/brown/navy is the new black, it would seem that most women still embrace black as the perennial, practical and flattering favorite. Pantone Color Institute’s resident color expert, Leatrice Eiseman, says that while black will never go out of style, the challenge is making it look fresh and new. If you usually pair black pants with a black sweater, try adding a pop of color in the form of a fun scarf, several vintage brooches or even a sweater with bright detailing at the neck. If you’re stuck someplace snowy, liven up your winter coat with a punchy pair of colorful snow boots.

The color to watch for this year, according to the Pantone Institute, is turquoise. This soothing mix between blue and green symbolizes serenity, hope and optimism. In many cultures, turquoise is also seen as a protective color. In Greece and many countries in the Middle East, a bright blue eye worn as a charm is thought to protect one from the evil eye.

Turquoise is flattering to most hair colors and complexions, so if you have pieces of Native American-inspired jewelry with turquoise stones, now is the time to bring them back into heavy rotation. Or, to update basic blue jeans, try a bold cuff, a dangling pair of earrings or even layering several necklaces with varying sizes of turquoise beads.

You don’t have to make over your entire wardrobe, but adding key shots of color can make you look and feel less frumpy and more fashionable. Slowly adding color to your wardrobe can update even your most basic key pieces.

How do you know which colors flatter you most? Eiseman says that most people have a sense of what works for them. “If you try something on and your first reaction is negative, pay attention. Your comfort level is what matters — you need to feel good in it.” Eiseman also advises looking at other dark colors to make you appear slimmer. “Dark compresses size, so even purple, plums, aubergine or very dark brown still does the same thing for you that black does.”

Just in case you’re feeling a little insecure about adding some color, Eiseman reminds us that while it’s good to have style advice from experts, the bottom line is that you have to “balance it by how color makes you feel. Color is emotion.”

Betty White is officially set to host Saturday Night Live on May 8th. But the booking almost didn’t happen. The 88-year-old actress tells Access Hollywood, “Years ago, I turned it down three times. I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.”

  • White will be joined by six former female late night players: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

BTW~ No worries if you are date-less this Saturday Night..Jude Law is hosting SNL!!!     03/13/10

I’m so happy Jane is returning to The Today Show.  She is beautiful, intelligent and someone I would love to talk with over a cup of coffee!

Jane Pauley is to start contributing a monthly segment she’ll produce with AARP for NBC’s “Today” show.

Called “Your Life Calling with Jane Pauley,” the monthly report will highlight people age 50 and up from across the United States who have reinvented the way they work and/or live to pursue their life’s calling, AARP said in a release.

Pauley, 59, served as co-host of “Today” from 1976 to 1989. She is scheduled to start appearing again on the morning chat show Tuesday.

“I’ve been thinking and talking about ‘reinvention’ for more than 20 years,” Pauley said in a statement. “‘Your Life Calling’ will feature people who’ve interpreted reinvention in a wide variety of ways. I hope our stories will inspire everyone to move toward the future with a positive new spirit, focus and energy — with a little help from a powerful team; my new partners AARP and my old friends on the ‘Today’ show on NBC.”

“This new series that AARP is doing with the ‘Today’ show is truly the product of Jane’s fascination and commitment to the topic of personal reinvention,” Kevin Donnellan — AARP’s executive vice president and chief communications officer — said in a statement. “I couldn’t think of a better person than Jane to take the lead on a series profiling inspirational people who have decided that now is the time to pursue their goals and passions.”

Mariah and Nick looked fantastic at Sunday’s Oscar Ceremony!  But, Mariah did a lil mumbling…could it be??

Mariah Carey hinted that “something special [is] on the way,” driving the tabs to surmise that she’s got a mini-Mimi in the oven. But her rep denies it.

She must have been talking about the Champagne she’d just ordered Nick to bring her.

Oh, wait..It’s Belvedere ‘VODKA’!   Here’s how the so-called story goes:

Madonna’s rep has blasted a report claiming the singer got into a bit of a tizzy while at Elton John’s pre-Oscars party at Soho House In L.A. An insider told the U.K.’s Mirror that Madge flipped out after realizing that the Grey Goose-sponsored party didn’t serve her favorite Vodka choice, Belvedere. But Madonna’s rep told GossipCop.com, “The entire thing is a lie from beginning to end.” The site also couldn’t get anyone from the Soho House to confirm the story.

Well, Yeah…I’m guessing because the staff would like to keep their jobs!  Ya think?

In the story that made the rounds on Monday (March 8th), a source had reportedly told the Sun, “It was left to one rather nervous waiter to tell her only Grey Goose was available and when he did all hell broke loose. Madonna was dropping F-bombs like they were going out of fashion.” Her manager, Guy Oseary, was able to calm her down, but Madge reportedly “sulked about the vodka and ordered a non-alcoholic virgin mojito instead. She was clearly up for a drink, but wasn’t prepared to compromise on her vodka choice.”

Oh, No she di’int!!

  • According to the Sun’s report, the ordeal seemed to put a damper on Madonna’s entire night. An eyewitness said that when Jane Fonda tried to say hello and chat with the pop star, Madge just waltzed right passed her, saying, “Hey Jane.”
  • Internet comments:

cookiepuss71 wrote on PereazHilton.com, “Why would anyone flip out over vodka at a GREY GOOSE sponsored party? What a dumbass. The woman thinks she’s God and considering how she looks lately, it’s not very flattering.”

HungUpBoyToy wrote on PerezHilton.com, “She’s called the Queen for a reason. Madonna can do whatever she wants, she’s earned that. She’s at the very top of Hollywood Royalty. Long live the Queen!!! I love you Madonna!”

The official Madonna iPhone app is now in the App Store, and it’s free! Fans can browse pictures and read the latest news on the Queen of Pop, all while listening to snippets of her songs that are playing in the background. A fan “wall” for user comments currently has people hailing the app as “amazing” and “awesome,” with many fans adding that “it’s about time” she got an app of her own.

‘It’s about time’…Really?  Did I miss some sort of  Madonna shortage/drought that was going on??
